MISSION
Ballot Democracy is a civic oriented organization dedicated to fair and equal elections in the state of Illinois including ballot access for candidate campaigns and referendums.
Ballot Democracy seeks to:
Broaden the awareness of legislators, public officials, news media, and the general public to unfair and unequal elections in Illinois.
Secure the passage of legislation that brings fairness and equality to elections in Illinois.
Resist overt and covert pressures in the private and public domain that would ignore the constitutional rights of any United States citizen to a fair and equal election.
Alert supporters of this organization to any public policy changes deemed undesirable for the good of the citizens of Illinois and to use the weight and influence of the organization to produce innovations and public policies that enhance elections for Illinois’ citizens.
BACKGROUND
The Illinois Constitution states that our elections must be free and equal. Our election authorities have a constitutional responsibility to ensure the integrity of the voting process. There is sufficient evidence to candidates, voters and the media that election authorities have failed in their constitutional responsibility.
The serious breach of election integrity of the recent Cook County Assessor’s race, the gross violation of our voting rights, and the widespread suppression of votes throughout the entire Cook County and City of Chicago is the drive that launched Ballot Democracy.
Well documented by respected members of the press, election judges and hundreds of voters, many races in our recent 2018 primary election suffered due to reported unprecedented mismanagement by election authorities.
There must be accountability, consequences and reform.
